The duties of the Equipment Operator include the safe and efficient operation of their assigned equipment in accordance with the established plant operating procedures. They are responsible for taking logs, reporting equipment malfunctions or trends, which indicate possible trouble, and performing actions as directed to correct abnormal operating conditions or emergency situations.


This position is responsible for the stable movement of refuse from the tipping floor for storage or into boilers for steam generation using overhead cranes. Additional responsibilities consist of operating front-end loaders, street sweeper, or other mobile equipment.

The Equipment Operator works under the direction of the Shift Supervisor, however during emergencies or unusual situations the Equipment Operator will be responsible for taking appropriate action on his/her own initiative to prevent equipment damage or personnel injury.

Assignments will include preventative maintenance, minor equipment repair, MSW handling on the tipping floor, and various other tasks.

To be considered for this position you must have a HS diploma or equivalent coupled with knowledge of steam power plant operations. Related military/technical training and/or industrial plant experience is a plus.
