Located at the Montgomery County Transfer Station in Derwood MD, we seek a dedicated individual to be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of Mobile Equipment at the Transfer Station.  In this position, the Equipment Operator operates rubber tire Front End Loaders, Rubber Tire Excavators with electro-magnet attachments, Roll-off Trucks, Fork Lifts, Skid Steer Loaders and Tire De-rimming machines.  Equipment operating activities include completing inspections and pre-trip maintenance activities on all equipment to be operated, recovering scrap metal from incoming solid waste deliveries on the Tipping Floor, loading scrap metal into roll-off containers. Hauling and dumping loaded roll-off containers at the Montgomery County Materials Recycling Facility, loading vendor trailers with recyclable materials, and removing rims from tires.   In addition to operating equipment when in the Upper Recycle Lot, the Equipment Operator also manually disassembles appliances for metal recovery; directs traffic; answers questions and assists customers and the General Public using the Recycle Lot to drop off their recyclable materials; validates proof of residency of the users of the Recycle Lot; and maintains cleanliness of the work area and other areas of the Transfer Station.      

 



The minimum requirements to be considered for this position are:
 
*  HS Diploma/GED
*  Class A CDL Driver's License
*  Minimum one (1) year demonstrated experience and competency operating Frond-end Loaders, Roll-off Trucks, and other Mobile Equipment.
*  Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools to complete minor maintenance activities.
*  Ability to lift 50 pounds and carry it a distance of 100 yards.
*  Strong interpersonal skills.
*  Good oral and written communication skills.
*  Ability to work outside in the elements.
*  Ability to work weekends and evenings.
