DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Located at Covanta's 58th Street Transfer Station, we seek an Equipment Operator, who is a dedicated individual that will be responsible for the safe, efficient operation of all equipment associated with the management of inventory for the Transfer Station.

Under the direction of the Lead Equipment Operator this position directs the MSW and C&D deliveries to either the Tipping Floor or the C&D Bunker.

Operating, maintaining and servicing of heavy equipment e.g. front end loaders, excavators, skid steers, forklifts and sweeper.

Maintain operating logs, inspection checklists for heavy equipment and other site equipment and load inspections.

Cleaning/Housekeeping of work area and equipment along with other job duties as required.

The Equipment Operator will be responsible for taking appropriate action on his/her own initiative to prevent equipment damage or personal injury.

Operator is required to attend regularly scheduled safety and compliance training when required by management.

Applicant must recognize that this position may be required to work overtime and incidental or prolonged hours, resulting from unusual operating conditions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to walk, sit, climb, balance, crawl and kneel.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry.
  • Must be able to climb ladders.
  • Must be able to feel, see, talk and hear.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to heavy vehicle/equipment traffic.

The employee is occasionally exposed to airborne particles, dust, odor and vectors; outside weather conditions and loud noises.


REQUIREMENTS (Education, Skills, Certificate, Licenses, Experience):

Must have a HS diploma/GED.

1-3 years’ related experience.

Coordinate with Scale House Attendant and other operators to maintain traffic and production flow.

Operate, maintain and service all heavy equipment used to facilitate transfer station operation.

Responsible to perform regular equipment services and cleanings and supply supervision with daily documentation of services and operational checks.

Perform daily preventative maintenance on heavy equipment, i.e. greasing, fueling, lubrication, filter cleaning and minor repairs.

Individual must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs.
