Reporting to the Facility Manager, the E&I Supervisor will lead and guide a team of electrical and instrumentation technicians in daily preventative, scheduled, and corrective maintenance activities in a safe, effective, and timely manner. Responsibilities include daily planning and scheduling of all maintenance activities on boilers, turbine generators, material handling, site buildings, landfill leachate system, CEM system and balance of plant equipment, with needs of the operational departments. The supervisor will develop comprehensive Preventive Maintenance program and report on maintenance work productivity and performance, as well as daily, weekly and monthly maintenance planning, execution, and backlog management.

The E&I Supervisor may fill in for the Maintenance Supervisor as needed and work closely with the supervisor to see that the routine work planning is in line with the overall maintenance plan and cost management.

The E&I Supervisor is responsible to identify and address safety, environmental and performance issues, and to demonstrate strong leadership and motivational skills to encourage growth, development and continued improvement of individuals as well as the maintenance department as a whole. The supervisor will train employees on proper maintenance work and trouble-shooting techniques, and complete safety and environmental training with direct reports. The supervisor will implement Covanta’s performance management program including employee performance reviews and discipline.

To be considered for this position, the qualified individual requires a high school diploma/GED. Massachusetts Master Electrician’s License, formal technical training, and/or a college degree are a plus.

Minimum of 10 years of experience in power plant maintenance including: industrial electrical generation and distribution systems, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic control systems for various industrial process equipment, industrial programmable logic control and data acquisition systems.  Strong background in project management, job planning, setup, execution, job cost and time estimating is desired.

Strong communication, organization, and computer skills are required. Must have the desire and ability to mediate conflicting priorities among maintenance department personnel and between operations and maintenance departments. Must have demonstrated a positive demeanor in dealing with employee population, contractors, and other.  Must have the ability to lead others by example and motivate others to face challenging situations in a safe, positive, and efficient manner. Must be willing and able to deal with problems as they arise and work well under pressure. 

Must be able to identify needs for improvement and implement change, have knowledge of maintenance budgeting and methodologies, and be able to manage spare parts inventory to optimum levels. Must have the ability to use technical manuals, internet, vendors and other applicable resources to find appropriate repair procedures parts for the maintenance of plant equipment. Must have basic computer skills in order to write reports, create spread-sheets, administer timesheets, handle e-mail, etc. Computer software experience such as Excel, Word, Projects, PeopleSoft/ALM asset management and data management software is a plus.

Must be able to work in all locations within the plant, under extremes of hot and cold, and in areas of dust, noise and wet conditions. Must be able to wear a respirator. Must be able to climb onto equipment and work in heights, lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs. and other manual labor to including pushing, pulling, sweeping and shoveling.  Must be able to work overtime as needed including nights, weekends, and holidays with minimum notice.
