Covanta is a growing company with a global network of Energy-from-Waste and Material Processing Facilities which is preserving valuable natural resources and generating clean energy for our client communities and the world we live in. We currently have an internal need for a Director, Sales and Marketing Systems to lead the IT organization responsible for technology support Covanta’s Sales and Marketing team. This highly visible leadership role reports to the IT VP of Delivery Services in addition to working closely with a broad cross section of Covanta’s business leadership team.  Systems managed include NetSuite ERP, Qlikview/QlikSense, Microsoft technology stack (SharePoint, CRM Dynamics, Asp.Net development), document management systems, and website related technologies.  Responsibilities will include leading the full systems delivery life cycle (SDLC) including design, development, implementation, operation and decommissioning of mission critical software applications.  This position requires a highly motivated and proactive individual who will use highly developed leadership, communication, and technical skills to work collaboratively with business partners.  The role plays a key role in support of Covanta strategic growth as greater emphasis is placed on organic and M&A growth opportunities. 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES -

  • Manage the design, development and deployment of new or enhancement of existing applications. (50%)
    • Coordinate feasibility studies for software and system products under consideration for purchase, and give advice.
    • Ensure that all new applications meet functional requirements, system compliance, and interface specifications.
    • Ensure end user business requirements are met.
    • Owns the development lifecycle and is responsible for managing technical risks throughout a project.
    • Collaborate with analysts, designers, and system owners in the testing of new software programs and applications.
  • Manage and direct the Sales & Marketing Systems team “run the business” operations. (40%)
    • Ensure stated performance levels per agreed to Service Level Agreements (SLA), including a 99% + operational up time, is maintained for enterprise applications.
    • Ensure proper maintenance procedure and processes for the upkeep of enterprise applications.
    • Review and analyze existing applications’ effectiveness and develop strategies for improvement.
    • Continually seeks opportunities to increase customer satisfaction and deepen customer relationships.
    • Cultivate, disseminate, and enforce functional policies, procedures, and quality assurance best practices.
    • Where necessary, prepare, establish, and monitor budgets.
  • Manage various activities including colleague development, training etc. 


  • College degree in computer science or equivalent technical with 10 to 15 years related work experience.
  • Minimum 7 years experience in customer relationship and collaborative software design, development and management.
  • A proven team leader with a track record of managing and motivating an organization to superior performance and results.
  • Direct, hands-on experience with automated software and system management tools.
  • Strong knowledge of system and software quality assurance best practices and methodologies.
  • Extensive experience with web based and collaborative applications including MS SharePoint, .NET, ASP and JAVA.
  • Database management (Oracle and SQL database) and architecture fluency highly desirable.  
  • Self-motivated with an ability to communicate ideas in both technical and business language.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a fast moving environment.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Proven track-record providing innovative business solutions.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Delivers engaging, informative, well-organized presentations
