The Covanta Credit & Analytics Manager is responsible and accountable for administrating Covanta’s corporate credit policy, including managing the credit provisioning process, improving the consistent and automated application of the credit policy, performing proactive customer credit reviews, assessing prospective customer creditworthiness, and providing core sets of KPIs to monitor customer performance with the goal of minimizing Covanta’s exposure to customer credit default risk and eventual bad debt losses. This role will also use data and analytics to provide insight into business performance and work with other Managers across the AR team to suggest methods of improving operations. The Credit & Analytics Manager will report directly to the Director of Accounts Receivable. 

  • Maintain consistent standards for granting credit, reviewing open credit limits, and setting risk ratings
  • Establish strong, proactive partnerships with other corporate departments within the organization to minimize bad debt losses, improve service to customers and overall AR operations
  • Develop and maintain corporate credit policies, processes, and procedures
  • Provide training to business partners and stakeholders on key credit processes, to increase knowledge, business efficiency, and promote an understanding of credit application
  • Recommend and justify decisions for business-critical credit requests using appropriate approval levels
  • Establish credit limits of customers/prospects through credit reports, financials, payment history, online articles, and additional firsthand artifacts discovered
  • Analyze customer credit data and financial statements to determine the degree of risk involved in extending credit
  • Innovative use of data analytical models to improve risk management strategies and customer experience
  • Utilize credit models and analytics to assist customer credit administration with policies and strategies that minimize risk exposures
  • Be capable and creative on leveraging various statistical methodologies to solve business problems
  • Generate and maintain financial ratios to evaluate customers’ financial status
  • Consult with customers, as needed, to review financial statements and clarify credit transactions
  • Prepare regulatory and operational reports, leveraging quantitative and qualitative means, to report on customer credit risk
  • Monitor and review customer's credit standing on an ongoing basis and work with sales to appropriately adjust prices during contract renewals
  • Investigate and review customer accounts to identify and select delinquent accounts requiring escalation
  • Provide clear and timely responses to customers and internal stakeholders regarding customer credit status, rationale for credit declines/decreases, and reasons for maintaining customer credit holds
  • Evaluate customer records and recommend payment terms based on financial statements, payment history and purchase activity
  • Manage and maintain the accounting of key reserves including the allowance for doubtful accounts
  • Perform proactive risk management for accounts & projects within a given level of authority
  • Run credit reports and perform customer calls for credit references as needed
  • Manage relations with credit reporting agencies
  • Enforce and Verify key customer accounts are insured with providers and compliant with trade credit insurance policies
  • Interface with sales organization to communicate credit decisions and ensure timely review of new and renewing customers
  • Audit delinquent accounts considered to be uncollectable; ensure maximum efforts have been taken before assigning bad credit status to account.
  • Monitor adherence to established internal controls in the areas of credit management
  • All other duties as assigned by management

  • Significant understanding/in-depth knowledge of essential OTC business, collection, and credit functions
  • Must be an intuitive, organized analytical thinker, with the ability to perform detailed analyses
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical, and customer service skills
  • Strong computer literacy with MS Office products, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio and must have a good aptitude for learning other new computer software systems
  • Literacy in accounting for bad debt provisions
  • Demonstrated knowledge of credit laws, policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Vast understanding of credit reporting agencies (Dun & Bradstreet specifically)
  • Proficient in reading / interpreting financial statements for underwriting credit
  • Excellent written and verbal communications
  • Energetic, detailed oriented, able to adhere deadlines on a timely manner
  • Strong communication skills for negotiation & reconciliation
  • Ability to negotiate structure and monitor credit transactions.
  • Must exhibit a solid professional business image with a team player attitude
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and build relationships with team personnel, sales representatives, commercial offices, plants, and customers
  • BS in Accounting, Finance, Statistics, Economics or related field required. CPA/CMA/MBA or progress towards the completion of these is preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in credit management, credit administration, credit risk analytics, or credit underwriting positions
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing a team of individuals
  • Previous experience managing trade insurance policies a plus
  • Previous exposure to diverse credit situations and knowledge of credit policies and ability to apply them
  • Related work experiences with risk analysis and receivable collection a plus
