We seek a dedicated individual, who will ensure the safe, environmentally compliant, and optimum production, of the Miami-Dade Facility Power House. Duties include monitoring and operating, boiler and turbine units, air pollution control equipment, fuel feed conveyors, and other plant auxiliary equipment within required parameters. The successful candidate will be responsible for boiler combustion, firing solid fuel, comprised of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW); maintaining boiler loads per design; turbine generator operations; water system balancing, fuel feed and ash conveying systems operations, and plant auxiliary systems operations, utilizing multiple DCS platforms.

The Control Room Operator will lead, initiate, and direct boiler and turbine generator normal operations, starts, stops, and casualty control conditions, as well as maintain daily logs, readings, and other records essential to plant operations. Candidates must have solid communication skills, and be able to maintain proper communications between plant personnel, other departments, and ensure the reporting of all abnormalities to the shift supervisor.

 Position Requirements also include:

  • A strong ability to multi-task, and address and resolve plant operational issues using deductive logic and reasoning.

  • Must be able to handle and respond to, upset conditions and casualty situations in a professional and technically proficient manner.

  • Will direct plant subordinate/junior operators in performing tasks essential
    to plant operations.

  • Must understand and comply with NERC/FERC guidelines and policies.

  • Must understand and comply with all required State, OSHA, and Company safety policies and procedures.

  • Must fully understand and comply with all pertinent environmental policies, procedures, and permit limits; this also includes a solid knowledge of the facility air pollution control systems.

  • Perform or assist with plant preventive maintenance as assigned by the shift supervisor.

  • Assist with the training of junior employees in plant operations.

  • Have an understanding of boiler water and wastewater treatment chemistry.

  • Must be able to complete ASME QRO Provisional licensing within 12 months of hire/promotion

To be considered for this position the individual must have a High school diploma or general education degree (GED); a minimum of 2 years power plant control room operations experience or 4 years of power plant operations experience and/or training in similar technologies. Internal candidates must have completed qualification standards for the prior position in the company's line of progression.
